  • You're an absolute LEGEND Matt! Still Can't believe how crazy this turned out 👌

    • Maybe give away some of those phones to people in need who cannot afford a new phone or a replacement for a broken one. Just a thought

    • I can read this in your acent😂

    • @Mrhosetheboss make a video about how he help you organize all your collection phones.

    • Your place looks like the set used in the Greg Davies show, The Cleaner. That is funny. Who's the boss? I think the point of the show was it may not be the person you think. Was it Tony or the woman he rented from? That's the point! Another thing you could do is sell them cheaply to people that can't afford a new phone or give them to charity. Since you are a "tester" you didn't pay or them.

    • That was really outstanding! I mean, everything he does is outstanding.😂

  • This man is so effing smart that he even anticipated finger prints from peeling the protective film off and taped all the joints of the mirrors before peeling any. He's good.

    • he did that to make it one big peel instead of multiple small ones, not sure if it was for fingerprints or not but still smart haha

  • The collab we didn’t expect, know we needed, or even deserve *LEGENDARY*

    • Came here to say the same

    • We certainly didn't deserve it, that's for sure - I mean, what have we done to him that was that bad?

    • @MizuDev fair enough

    • @Isaac Madhavan either way I still hate when people say this. It’s an overused comment

    • @MizuDev If you read again, you'll understand that he meant "we didn't know that we needed it".

  • You should sell a mini clip version holder on Amazon! Beautiful design

    • Exactley, cmon the man can make some money!

    • @Click HA GOTEEEM

    • @Tarvoskemwer Got it, but what if you don't have any 3D Printer or CNC available? Or the knowledge to program the things neccessary for that (the 3D model, the CNC Coordinates and the Raspberry PI for the LEDs.)

    • @Tarvoskemwer HA GOTEEEM

    • or, read the channel name out loud

  • 4:36 Every developer has a tab open to stack overflow

  • Lamar, unsurprisingly, has StackOverflow open there. That's a true pro.

    • @Leeroy I have to disagree with you there, I personally have a lot of fun with my programming job, especially when things start coming together.

    • Every comment here is painfully accurate 😂

    • Anyone has his code ?

    • @Daniele Testa Is that the foundation of "SOF"? You speak to others who know how and they help you create segments of code for your idea?

    • Unless you are a natural poker face russian hacker of course

  • If only there was a way to get the one you’re looking for to ring. That would be freaky! I think the potential fire risk of trickle charging that many phones would be a bit iffy though! Great project very well solved. I think we can all agree on two things: 1, great work of great quality 2, that dude has too many phones!

  • The dude who made the coding is my secret hero ! I pay highest respect for that what he did ! But: having the idea for a project like this is amazing as well ! well done !

  • This is what I would call a perfect design and engineering project; simple yet elegant with a touch of flare and functionality. 10/10

  • This video was great, would really like to see more like this, tackling niche projects. Even though it is ‘niche’ it can sometimes stimulate the viewers mind to have ideas from this build transfer over to other solutions for other projects. Great work.

  • Spoiler comment: I was already nerding out to how clean the project was looking, and LED’s are always a nice touch, especially when added in such a clean manner, but when you added said “addressable database that lights up the LED of where the phone is, my mind was blown. So elegant!

    • All that matters now is can MrWTB keep up the database when rearranging phones and relocating them all over the place lol

    • hi Hank

    • Wow it’s been awhile since I’ve seen you around

    • Yeah right

    • I read this in his voice

  • This is really AWERSOME. One more thing could be a little sensor to detect if there is a phone placed in every clip. This would help the database store better real time info and cound offer a nice interface over the shelfs status. Besides this little consideration, it is an absolute beast of a project

    • the sensor wouldn't be able to spot the phone name/type so in the end they would still need to log the data in the database at which point you might as well log the clip location manually.

  • Freaking fantastic mate! You never fail to amaze! We have the same cnc at our shop and just got a 3d printer so ideas like this are where we need to be headed I think. Seriously genius solution!

  • Incredible engineering, woodworking and design! My solution would be for the phones to be sold on eBay 🤷‍♂️

  • That was absolutely amazing! Seriously the number of trials and tests before you put that altogether must of been monstrous! RESPECT!!

  • Grinning right through to the end such a gorgeous solution with two of the most wholesome creators on the platform. I need to get me some walnut that finish is SO good!

    • @BEdmonson85 Right...it's a matter of time and temp.. It's called PLASTIC CREEP...PLA suffers a lot..

    • @BEdmonson85 all plastics will if the temperature is high enough, but unlikely for that indoor use case.

    • @BEdmonson85 even still, and even if phones get too thin for the current clips..... More can be printed and I'm sure he gave him spares. This is an awesome project

    • doesn't PLA loose it's spring over time if put into compression though?

  • Absolutely brilliant! I would substitute brushed aluminium for the mirrors to make it easier to keep clean. It would still get dusty but it just wouldn't show quite as much. ;-]

  • I am a fan of both @Mrwhosetheboss and @DIY Perks. This video got me in a shock again as usual thinking about the solution you gave for the storage. That programming for the lights to find the phones is something extraordinary... Kudos to the teams!

  • Matt, this time you've outdone your "shelf" !! :D Seriously this thing can be sold in IKEA stores by the meter!

  • I LOVE both of these guys! Mrwhosetheboss made me care about smartphones and I love his short essay videos on problems in tech culture. Matt made me realize that anyone can take control of their tech and create and unbelievable amount of things! Love the video guys!

  • The collab we didn't know we needed, until NOW!

  • that was so much fun to watch. You and your friend, plus dad are geniuses.

  • This makes me want to have 600 phones just so I can need one of these shelves. Great work

  • Aruns reaction is just priceless.

  • Fantastic shelving solution, also loved the concept of visual cues for identifying the position. How about charging the phones in parallel?

  • Mind-blowing work!

  • That effort!! This is amazing, Matt!! Your mind is just--mindblowing!! Great problem solving skills and very unique concepts. It's what makes me love your channel!! ❤

  • One of the few channels with genuine reactions. Cant figure out what im loving more, the emotional reaction or the actual project.

  • Looks great, though i have one concern, wouldnt the clips wear out over time and become less "elastic" therefore providing less force that hold the phones upright? This might depend on the material of course, but this could be a big problem i think.

  • That is just mesmerizing, Matt awesome thinking to make the most of the space you had for the amount of phones. And Lamont you have made such a cool system. Something I would love to create but I would not even know we're to begin. Great job to both of you!

  • One thing that could make it better for me is a glass cover to prevent dust accumulation. But with that setup, it would be too heavy so....

    • Sliding glass accordion doors like on a closet. Maybe use stained glass or laser etch something into it so it glows when lit

    • @NickCMOS that's why we need engineers lmao

    • @cafeine you screwed me up when you said OP instead of commenter but you're right lol

    • @Jan That's what i said

    • That part of the house could be dust free with an air cleaner maybe

  • Absolutely enthralling video, honestly. I would love more "classic DIY in absurd sitation" content like this if you had anything more in mind.

  • I think this has gone on from DIY to engineering and manufacturing. Well done.

  • This is wild. I loved it: the phones collection, the DIY projects, and the sleek phone selection finder.

  • It looks very cool ! Especially with the system to find the phone you want to pick. But I think it will be not easy to clean dust with time 🤔

  • I think you've just found the perfect way to collaborate with other people. The presentation of this video, although different to your usual style was very well done. I'd like to see more, along with the usual style we've all loved for many years.

    • Yes sir, this was a great video and really would like to see more like it. First video I watched on this man's channel and yeah...I'm hooked.

    • I'd also guess that Mrwhosetheboss would have paid for part of or all the material costs since he'll get to use it. I'm so glad this Collab happened!

  • Absolutely amazing build, I know that end was satisfying. I'm wondering why no doors though, like he had on the setup in the office, because they were shelves and not a cabinet or just not feasible?

  • I am so happy to see our favorite community members joining together for such a cool project!

  • Mrwhostheboss seemed genuinely emotional about how rad it looks. good on ya!

  • On hard days having low mood I just check into your channel and pick any of your videos to revive my motivation with the overwhelming enthusiasm radiating from your shows. Thank you Matt not only for what but also for how you make videos. Keep up the good flow!

  • AMAZING!! I want to do something like this for my audio cassettes and vinyls.

  • Thats such an impressive project men. Really well done!!

  • Now make one for card collectors lol. I can imagine one like that for thousands of Sports/TCG cards

  • WOW! Two of my favorite eloquent channel hosts in a video. Above and beyond as always, Matt. Impressive work by Lamar too.

  • Love cross overs. This one was EPIC!!

    • @AMG_Essex 🤣😂🤗

    • @Foodgeek 🤣🤣🤣 I'm doubting myself now, probably explains why I get kicked out of all the parties I go to 😭🤣

    • @AMG_Essex You must be fun at parties ;)

    • It's not a dress show mate. 'cross over'...

    • @hooDio ikr....

  • As a maker, this video really shows what its all about. A kind fellow that has a unique need, and a few makers who's skills mesh to make that need a reality. When everyone involved is so amicable, you cant help but make an amazing product with all the features you can think of. It becomes a labor of love.

  • nice, did the same for my books and retro games a couple of years ago, great to see others come to same solutions

  • Two of my favorite youtubers, and matt is so humble and down to earth. What a gentleman

  • This was really fun to watch, I was smiling all the time and even laughing. Definitely wholesome

  • I need a shelf. Matt: "We can do better!" Matts DIY blows anybodys mind AGAIN! Anytime I watch his DIY videos I get blown away.

  • I'm completely astonished. It's just wonderful. Problem solving at best and then the LED database just blew my mind. Cheers!

  • Everything you do Matt, is so wholesome and inspiring that I have to say you are my single most favorite ILawardr there is.

  • THAT PEEL OOOOOOH BABY THATS THE GOOD STUFF RIGHT THERE! This is one of the most satisfying build projects to watch. Its nerd an organization nerds dream.

  • this man know's everything about all the stuff .. a real legend

  • 4:46 - a Pi Model B+, those are a bit rare to see these days, but that was the first one I used for any serious work.

    • What are you talking about. I have 3 of them.

    • @Jeff Geerling i put the code on it, i wouldnt be able to tell the difference visually 🤣🤣

    • @meeraj bhavsar 🤣🤣fr

    • @LiteLotus Oh shoot, you're right, upon closer inspection! The funny thing is I have a 3 B sitting on my desk (on top of my original Pi B rev 2, under the 3 B+), and I forgot it was the last B without the metal heat spreader (I thought the 2 B was the last one). Good eye!

    • @Chris we wanted networking. using an arduino makes things a lot harder

  • You are so great at designing beautiful aesthetics for your projects. Again a great video!

  • The collaboration we always wanted🔥

  • That is one of the coolest pieces I've seen to date! Very good build and engineering to get this done.

  • I'd have put the phones in glass out 😉 ... although this was an amazing build y'all did an incredible job

  • Didn't expect this crossover. Amazing man 😍

    • Yo hey man

  • I think your youtube channel is my absolute favourite of all time. There are lots of different channels I love for different reasons, but every time I watch your content I feel curious, inspired, motivated, aesthetic satisfaction, and overall am left with a sense of joy. Guaranteed to leave each video in a good mood.

  • love the idea, thanks for the programmer, a sliding plexiglass will be great addition to prevent from the dust!

  • Absolutely brilliant. Must be a proud moment for your dad, being able to help out his ‘geeky ILaward son’.

  • Absolutely awesome ‼️ I like your approach to the complex problem, the documentation of the solution finding process. Probably one of the best contributions I ever watched.

  • Can you make an extra shelf for sale ? 😂

    • @pleappleappleap maybe he doesn't hame time/ 3d printer/ cnc machine?))

    • @Ivan Benja He doesnt have time currently he is trying to join Ukrainian Foreign force :D

    • @pleappleappleap Maybe he doesn't have time.

    • Just Do It Yourself.

  • The collab we never wanted yet appreciated. Love the project.

  • This type of colab is what we want to see more of. Absolutely great project!

  • Absolutely top work, lads. I can't wait to see what you do next. I wonder if we will see more of Lamar?

  • Nice and all. I can appreciate the work gone in to it but really this is just one of those good to watch setups that Joe Bloggs is never going to have in his home. I suspect it'd cost a bomb to do this aside from the tools required for the job. Though with that said, most people don't have 1000 phones. They just sell them.

  • These two should start a podcast. Their voices together was therapy I didn't know I needed

    • Up vote.. I'd totally sub that.

    • I watch his videos sometimes just because the voice, its relaxing

    • ikr?

  • Reminds me of the first time I've seen how dealerships store the inventory keys, just type the stock number, a shelf opens and the key and owners manual are in a spot that lights up and unlocks so that is the only key you can grab in that moment. Would be cool if, with this system, when you have company over (more than your usual trusted friends and family), when a phone is removed from a slot, that section lights up, and the admin to the server would get a notification 🤔

  • This guy is amazing trailblazer at diy for tech and everything in general. I love it.

  • Nice work! One question - why couldn't the phones be slid in vertically, so shelves could have been spaced nearer to each other, nearly doubling your space? In any case, great project - bad pun! ;-D

  • Dude you outdid yourself in this one! It's an amazing work!

  • "The result speaks for its-shelf" He was WAITING for that one haha. Best channel on ILaward. Always does a great job!

    • Love that he waited to drop the pun-bomb for the end

    • @Darya Neviarovich iiiï8

    • Thought the same lmao

  • Incredibly work guys, really well done!

  • Found you when I wanted to create diy sound panels for my studio, but this video just earned you a sub! I'm a fan! 💡🙌

  • It's insane that this needed to exist lmao. Looks amazing

  • You SMASHED this one. Looks great. Congrats man!

  • When DIY is more professional than a professional. It's beautiful.
